The Volta region is one of the regions in Ghana with a very high number of tourist attraction. This week I made my way to the Volta region with a friend for an exciting adventure. We intend spending two nights and return the 3rd day. The agreement was to wake up early and leave Accra before 8am so we can arrive in Gbledi-Gbogame by 1pm freshen up and continue to Afadjato to start our Volta adventure.
Well our timing was just so perfect, so perfect that 8am turns 1pm exactly the time we ended up leaving Accra. We chose to alight at Golokwati(more convenient for us) and charter a taxi to Gbledi-Gbogame which took us 40 minutes drive to arrive instead of going all the way to Hohoe. Mountain vista lodge just 3minutes walk away from the mountain Afadja is where we lodged, quite affordable and the service was okay. There isn’t anything to do in the town after 6:30pm so don’t expect much.
The next day(Friday) was the big day, Christian a native of Gbledi, Herty a friend and I began our journey to the top of Afadjato at exactly 7.50am. We were the first to hike the mountain that morning. We came across this beautiful stream 3minutes into the hike and made our first stop 5minutes away from the stream and continued to stop several times until we arrived at the top. A first timer can use 40minutes minimum to get to the top, I actually used an hour and half to get to the top because my colleague kept making several stops. It wouldn’t be wise to have left her behind since we were the only ones climbing that morning.
The walk to the top is no joke but the view from the top of the mountain is rewarding, you can actually see the Tagbo water falls while on top of Afadjato. You can watch the video here. While taking pictures and admiring nature, a group of school children also made their way to the top. The first kid to reach the top told me he used 45minutes which was very impressive.
