This years Chale wote arts festival ended on Sunday 21st August with artist from far and near displaying their works on the streets of James town. Free minded folks of all walks of life were present to admire the works of artist and to also display their creativity through fashion. I made it to James town on day3 of the festival and on the weekend and I must admit, I was really impressed by the attendance.

On display were modern, contemporary and traditional arts. The composition of some of these art works were amazing and behind every painting is a myth of artistic creation full of glamour. I found myself in the flood of fashion expressionists and I loved every bit of it. There was a lot to see and I bet we all met familiar faces all over. Mants3 Agbonaa was the place to be at night for the music parade. Music was bashing out of every street corner and at a point, I thought I was at a shatta Wale’s concert. For those who missed out on this years festival, you can check out my photo gallery below. Shout out to Yaw Pare of Random Ghana pics for the wonderful photo production. We did it our way.

This Ghana flag is made of one pessewa coins. Not sure how much coins was used in making the flag because the artist wasn’t around to be asked but let me guess!…errrh 20,000. The kids keep peeling off the coins, not sure what they’re going to use it for as far as I know, they cant use 100 of these coins to buy 1toffee. Art by Yaw Owusu

Some of the many paintings on dispaly

This is one of my favorite paintings… Religious capitalism, the use of  power bestowed onto one another to gain personal interest. In Africa, religious capitalism is one of the fastest economic growing sectors. Pastors blindfold their followers with unauthentic religious beliefs just to enrich their selfs. Some have also changed the worshiping places into business centers. Considering the current scenarios, market women have fallen victims causing the motive behind this painting.
