Chale Wote street art festival is an annual arts festival held in Accra on the streets of James town(Accra’s most historic community). The event aims at bringing out art,  music, dance and performance into the streets and targets Ghanaian and international artists and patrons to create and appreciate arts together.

In case you’re wondering what chale wote means, it’s an interpretation of “Man let’s go” in Ga language. The Chale Wote street art festival includes street painting, photography, theater, spoken word, interactive art installations, live street performances, extreme sports, film shows, a fashion parade, a music block party, recyclable design workshops and much more since 2011.

Organized by Accra Dot Alt, this year makes it the sixth edition of the festival and will be held from Monday, August 15– Sunday, August 21st. The theme for this years festival is Spirit robot.

Why do I “soo” want to attend this years festival? I love arts and everything about it, it helps inspire my inner creativity. It would be nice to see and appreciate the intelligence of artists who exhibit their creative minds through paints. Culture, music, fashion are part of the things I take interest in so being present at this years festival will get me closer to various cultures, street fashion and arts. I  would also get to enjoy good music while having fun.

Last year’s festival took over the streets of James town (where it’s regularly held) with dynamic display of culture, arts, among others. The photos, stories and hype from friends present last year got me disappointed in myself for missing out on it. I’ll keep you updated with stories and pictures from this years event when it takes place later in the year.

  1. It’s about time we had something outside the ordinary. I’m a lover of art too. I like to think of it as an extension of one’s creative thought. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard anything about this festival when it’s been running for 5 years now. Lord have mercy! I am so passing through.

    • It’s running for a week but at different locations so if you make it to James town on the weekday, there would’nt be really much to see. Saturday and Sunday is the real deal.
