Just about 40 minutes drive from Accra the capital of Ghana, you would find one of the most peaceful and beautiful places to visit in Ghana (Aburi Botanical Gardern). The garden located in the Eastern region of Ghana was opened in March 1890 and attracts a huge number of visitors both local and foreign and offers a rich collection of tropical flora and trees. For only Ghs2 paid at the entrance, my friend and I had the chance to see, learn, have fun and explore every corner of the garden which occupies an area of 64.8 hectares. Take some time away from all the noise around you and go get lost in the relaxing big green Aburi garden, if you care to spend the night there, don’t worry there is an accommodation in the garden(just might not be luxurious for you if you care about luxury), and ooo for food lovers like myself, smile because there is a restaurant in the garden.
Some exciting attractions within the garden include the Bush House, the palm walk, the Pergola or Lovers walkway, the retired helicopter, the Strangler Ficus tree, and the school of horticulture. I personally find the story behind the Ficus tree interesting, I’m guessing you want to know so briefly the Ficus tree was first discovered in 1906 and has now successfully strangled its host and has now taken its place so that’s how it derived the name “Strangler Ficus Tree”. This is the evidence..
Continuing In about a minute walk from the entrance of the garden, my friend and I came across a tree called “Araucaria Cunninghamii(Araucaraceae)” If you ask me, I will refer to it as a Christmas tree because that’s what it looks like to me and interestingly this tree as it looks was planted on the 19th of October 1990. Yeah you guessed right, the tree is 25years. Here! take a look at it.
